is no much space here, specially when the tide
is high, but Praia das Gordas is the perfect
starting point if you intend to swim up to
Igreja do Bonfim (a charming church raised on
a small island) . This beach is neighbour to
Praia do Bonfim, another famous beach in the
region, and easily accessible down a stone
stairway built by the city hall.
Once
you have decided to swim up to Igreja do
Bonfim, make sure you are physically
well-conditioned to do it and beware of the
intense boat traffic around the area. Remember,
distance is relative when one is
swimming
